Interoperability Software Engineer

Hi, I'm Tom! I'm passionate about interoperability in the digital healthcare industry. After completing my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Hasso-Plattner-Institut, I worked for two years in the Ernst von Bergmann Hospital Group in the field of interoperability. After two years in the inpatient sector, I now want to gain experience in the outpatient sector.

Interests

Healthcare Interoperability

As a software engineer specializing in interoperability, I frequently work with healthcare standards like HL7 v2, FHIR, LDT, GDT, LOINC, SNOMED and VDDS. In the EVB hospital group, was responsible for the administration of the communication server and the development of interfaces between different software systems.

Ambient AI Medical Scribes

Clinical documentation is widely regarded as a significant burden by healthcare professionals. Recent advancements in AI technology offer hope that this burden of documentation could be significantly reduced in the future. Ambient AI solutions capture the entire patient-doctor conversation, which is then transcribed via a speech-to-text model, and key information is extracted using an information extraction model. Beyond saving considerable time, Ambient AI presents the added benefit of allowing doctors to fully engage with their patients without the distraction of a screen.

Hospital Information Systems

The Hospital Information System (HIS) serves as the core software within a hospital. It functions as a central repository for data from various subsystems, providing extensive features for documentation and billing. A proficient HIS can significantly boost the productivity of medical staff. Regrettably, many established providers in the German market fall short of expectations. Hence, I'm intrigued by the potential evolution of HIS. Will it be modular or monolithic? Which functions and approaches will prevail?
